The Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation has played a vital role in supporting healthcare in Rutherford County for decades. Originally established as the MTMC Foundation in 1984, it was created to advance the mission of Middle Tennessee Medical Center by securing philanthropic support for patients, programs, and facilities.

As the hospital experienced significant growth—including its relocation to a new, state-of-the-art campus in 2010—the Foundation evolved alongside it, expanding its reach and impact across the region. In 2013, following the hospital’s transition into the Ascension Saint Thomas network, the Foundation was renamed to reflect its alignment with one of the nation’s largest Catholic health systems.

Today, the Foundation serves as a critical partner in advancing healthcare throughout Middle Tennessee. Its work focuses on three primary areas: patient assistance, associate (employee) support, and capital funding for hospital programs and facilities. Through donor generosity, the Foundation helps provide access to care, funds life-saving equipment and expansions, and supports initiatives that improve health outcomes across the community.

In FY26, the Foundation supported more than 3,000 patients and associates, providing over $200,000 in direct assistance. In addition, it invested $1.9 million in capital projects, including the CCU Balcony Waiting Room furniture refresh, 3rd Floor and NICU renovations, Draeger equipment for Saint Louise Clinic, and the OB expansion project—bringing total FY26 funding to over $2.1 million.

Rooted in a tradition of service and philanthropy, the Foundation continues to carry forward its original purpose—ensuring compassionate, high-quality care for all, regardless of ability to pay.
